The very popular Berry’s Team Tournament Trail ended their regular season on May 7 at Lake Oconee. Next up for the anglers competing in the tournament trail is a two-day classic to be held on May 21-22. This tournament trail targets largemouth bass.

Classic anglers will fish Lake Oconee and launch out of Sugar Creek Marina on May 21^st and then move to Lake Sinclair and launch out of the Dennis Station Access on May 22^nd. The total weight for the two days will determine the classic champions who could walk away with a check for $10,000.

The regular season ended with a pair of tournaments on April 23^rd at Lake Sinclair and May 7^th at Lake Oconee. On April 23^rd 118 anglers caught 525 weighing 1202 pounds. Coming in first was the two-man team of Grant Kelly from Milledgeville and Jeff Kelly from McDonough with 18.44 pounds. They fished grass and docks in shallow water to earn $3580 in prize money.

Finishing close behind in second place was the two-man team of Stephen Jones and Girard Jones of Macon with 18.13 pounds. They fished spinnerbaits and top water lures to earn $1790. Rounding out the top three places was the two-man team of Ronnie McMullen and Tony Curtis from Jackson. They used jigs and spinnerbaits to earn a check for $1115.

The big fish at the April 23^rd tournament at Lake Sinclair was caught by Travis Sansbury from Hapeville and weighed 6.35 pounds. Sansbury caught the big fish on a plastic lizard and won $1180.

The tournament trail moved to Lake Oconee on May 7^th where 92 teams competed and caught 364 fish weighing 878 pounds. Van Dilliard and Chris Snowden from Eatonton caught 19.98 pounds to win the tournament and took home a check for $3000. They caught their fish in shallow water using plastic frogs and jigs.

Finishing in a very close second was the two-man team of Charlie Baldwin from Hiawassee and Mike Cochran from Newnan. They caught 19.83 pounds on spinnerbaits and won a check for $1500. Third place went to Shane Stokes and Brian Wilder from Lizella with 18.12 pounds. The pair of anglers caught their fish using top water lures and received a check for $940.

The big fish of the tournament was caught by Van Dilliard from Eatonton and weighed 6.88 pounds. Dilliard caught the big bass on a plastic frog and took home $920.

The regular season for the most part saw good weather and every tournament was marked by good weights of largemouth bass. To qualify to fish the class on May 21-22 a team has to fish at least five of the eight regular season tournaments. Berry’s Team Tournament Trail has announced that 114 two-man teams have qualified to fish the two-day classic. 

Another excellent regular season for one of if not the best tournament fishing trail in Georgia. Good fishing and see you next week.
