Tasties, Toddies, and Theatrics 2016 coming soon

GREENSBORO — In 2012, Lake Country Players Artistic Director John Copelan tested the market with the concept of presenting a dinner cabaret combined with a one act play. The initial response was overwhelming, and this formula continues to draw large audiences from the lake community. The success of Tasties, Toddies, and Theatrics may hinge on the broad appeal of Broadway show tunes, or the large number of talented vocalists and actors in the tri-county area, or even the tasty light dinner fare offered by favorite caterers, or perhaps all three. Whatever the reason, the Lake Country Players (LCP) are delighted that so many area residents are attracted to this show.

During the run of the show, the doors open at Festival Hall at 6:00 p.m. for theater goers. Patrons gather early to socialize until dinner service begins. At 7:00 p.m., charismatic Michael Wells will kick off the evening as narrator for the cabaret, A Little Night Music. Of course, Tasties, Toddies, and Theatrics would not be complete without celebrity, Jeffrey Wells, singing the first solo of the evening. Jeffrey’s rich, operatic bass-baritone vocals make the community proud to boast that Jeffrey is the Artistic Director of OPAS. Appearing with Jeffrey are Thomas Logan, one of this year’s Oconee Idol winners, and a host of new and familiar local vocalists, who will present songs that will make this a night to remember. To add even more pizzazz to the evening, music directors Susan Herndon, Lu Feldman, and Michael Wells are joined by talented choreographer Maureen Brower, a professional instructor from New York. Brower is working with the ensemble to bring a dance component to the show.

Following the cabaret and dessert, the one act play, A Buffalo in Sheep’s Clothing written by Ray Sheers will cap off the evening. A large cast of twelve will transport the audience to the Bronx as a Jewish mother tries to assume control of her shy, hapless daughter’s love life. In the midst of a devious plan to expose the current boyfriend as a loser, loads of screwballs and oddballs parade onto the scene to guarantee that the audience has a ball! The Players are hard at work to make this a farce that the audience will want to see time and again.

After the 2015 August run of Tasties, Toddies and Theatrics, sponsors Tommy and Janet Warner were so impressed with the performances that they pledged to double their financial support. They kept that pledge. The Warners have faithfully attended productions since the community theater started 6 years ago. As loyal fans, they enthusiastically share, “What a gem we have in The Players—a treasure trove of talent to be enjoyed by all.” The goal of the Players is to present another great night of entertainment to three full houses for the 4th consecutive Tasties, Toddies, and Theatrics at Festival Hall in downtown Greensboro on August 11, 12, 13. Tickets are $50 each. Tables seat 6. Call the Lake Country Players at 706-819-3190 to reserve your tickets before sales close on August 5th.
