Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast, Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016

Published 8:00 am Thursday, September 1, 2016

Lake Conditions – The lake is mostly clear.

Lake Water Temperature – 88-91 degrees

Largemouth Bass – FAIR/SLOW – The bite is slow and will likely stay that way until a weather change and cooler weather arrives. Good lure choices for the fish remaining shallow around docks and seawalls in the early morning are buzzbaits, small crankbaits (Shad Raps, Rat-L-Traps) and soft plastics (Texas rigs, Carolina rigs, Trick worm). For those fish that have moved deeper, a Carolina rigged plastic or deep diving crankbait (Strike King 5XD/6XD, Deep Little N) might get a strike from those fish. Concentrate on points, humps and ledges when water current is present in the afternoon.

Crappie – GOOD -The crappie has moved to their summertime locations around underwater trees and brushpiles where jigs and minnows will catch those fish. Those fish will remain in the trees until late into the fall.

Striped Bass/White Bass/Hybrid Bass – SLOW/POOR – The fishing continues to be slow. Some fish are located around humps and ledges on the south end of the lake and in front of the dam. Live bait and spoons are the best choices now.

Catfish – GOOD – The catfish have moved back to the main lake and major creeks after spawning. Cut bait (bream and shad) and live bait (bream and shad) are the best baits.
