Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast, Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016

Published 8:00 am Thursday, September 29, 2016

Lake Conditions – The lake is mostly clear.

Lake Water Temperature – 86-88 degrees

Largemouth Bass – FAIR/SLOW – The predicted cooler weather did not materialize in the last report but knew forecast indicate temperatures will decline significantly over the next two weeks with nighttime temperatures dropping into the 50s. That is just what we need to get the largemouth moving into the creeks to feed. Fish continue bite slow. There has been no change over the past several weeks. Good lure choices for the fish that are shallow around docks and seawalls in the early morning are buzzbaits, small crankbaits (Shad Raps, Rat-L-Traps), soft plastics (Texas rigs, Carolina rigs, Trick worm) and jigs. For those fish that are still deeper, a Carolina rigged plastic or deep diving crankbait (Strike King 5XD/6XD, Deep Little N) might get a strike from those fish. Concentrate on points, humps and ledges when water current is present in the afternoon.

Crappie – GOOD -The crappie are in their summertime locations around underwater trees and brushpiles where jigs and minnows will catch those fish. Those fish will remain in the trees until late into the fall.

Striped Bass/White Bass/Hybrid Bass – SLOW/POOR – No Report.

Catfish – GOOD – The catfish are primarily located in the main lake and major creeks and rivers now. Cut bait (bream and shad) and live bait (bream and shad) are the best baits.
