The Lake Oconee Lady Elks Auxiliary (LOLA) recently scored a trifecta with their 3rd project run to support the Aidmore Children’s Center in Conyers, GA. Aidmore has been sponsored by the Georgia Elks for over 85 years and provides a wide range of services designed to help teens and young adults who are in crisis and at risk.
In late October, a Fashion Show and Auction were spearheaded by co-chairs Joyce Huston and Cindy Estle. Kim Tucker from Camille & Company, outfitted models Linda Montgomery, Joyce Parr, Mary Pat Schwartz and Cindy Estle in the latest fall fashions. Guests were treated to a host of delicious appetizers and desserts as models strutted their stuff. Following the fashion show, auctioneer David Helmuth took charge of a spirited bidding war for various accessories and clothing items. Specially featured was an exquisite necklace generously donated by Christine’s Jewelry. Local merchants, including Holliewood’s Salon, contributed door prizes for the event. Committee members Roe Rothwell, Susan Zimmer, Mary Pat Schwartz and Kathy Sakal assisted with this event that generated approximately $2700 for charity.
Previously, LOLA sponsored two other projects for Aidmore. A summer sports basket was filled to overflowing with goodies donated by members and local companies. Chairwoman, Roe Rothwell, assisted by Susan Zimmer, displayed the basket at the Lodge for two months and tickets were sold by all LOLA members. The winning ticket was drawn in late August at another LOLA fundraiser, the Wild, Wild West Party. For that evening, the Lodge was packed with guests who enjoyed a BBQ-themed dinner, catered by Georgia Butts, with desserts provided by LOLA members. Guests danced the night away to the music of Ronnie Pittman and Jeff Williams. Prizes were awarded to Sherriff Steve Nation, Best Cowboy; Kim Boocher, Best Cowgirl; and Kim Robinson and Chuck Sapper, Best Dressed Couple. Chairwoman, Beth Huston, was ably assisted by committee members Bamby Nation, Joyce Kender, Gail Bishop, Mary Pat Schwartz, Joyce Huston, Roe Rothwell, Judy Broome, Roe Rothwell and Susan Zimmer. Proceeds from these two projects totaled nearly $5000.
Thanks to the support of the entire community, those who sell the tickets, those who buy the tickets and those who donate to the project, over $7500 has been raised for a very worthy cause.
