On Sunday, January 22, the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge hosted its annual Hoop Shoot contest for Hancock, Greene and Morgan counties. Sixty boys and girls came out to Lake Oconee Academy to give it their best “shot”. All of the kids did a fantastic job. The first place winners will travel to Newton County High School in Covington on February 4th to compete in the district competition. The winners from that contest will participate at the state level, again in Covington, and then the regional competition in Valdosta. The winners from all of the regional competitions go to Chicago to compete for the National Title and will have their name engraved in the Basketball Hall of Fame. There have been previous Georgia youngsters that have won the National Championship in their age group. Congratulations to these boys and girls and the best of luck as they continue to compete.
