Festival Hall is thrilled to offer an exciting Performance Arts Camp and a Generative Theatre Workshop June 25-30. Both will be directed by staff from The Arts Barn, a local performing arts studio owned and operated by Lora Garcia-Carreras. The morning Performance Arts Camp for children 7 to 12 years of age will be held from 9am to noon. The theme of the week is “What a Wonderful World.” Students will explore folk tales from around the world and express those lessons in acting, rhythm, and dance. Each camper will participate in a stunning performance piece on Saturday, June 30 to showcase the week’s activities.

The afternoon Generative Theatre Workshop sessions for teens ages 13 to 18 runs 1 to 6 p.m. and will provide instruction and facilitation in the areas of writing, acting and movement. The workshop will culminate in an original performance piece from the heart, that the participants create and perform.

“Generative theatre is a passion of mine; it is wonderful to see young people come alive as they create performance material that is pertinent to their lives and what they are dealing with as teens. To be a facilitator to this process is very fulfilling, and I am extremely excited about this summer’s program,” said Lora Garcia-Carreras.

The Arts Barn program offers unique opportunities for students in an atmosphere designed to encourage personal growth as well as skill development.

“I love being in the audience when The Arts Barn is performing,” commented administrative assistant, Sarah Christopher. Most recent performances have been at The Big Event, Southland Jubilee and Harbor at Harmony Crossing. “People are smiling, moving and involved. It’s always a good time,” she continues.
