GREENSBORO — What if they gave a party and nobody came?
Well, that’s NOT what happened the evening of Aug. 25 when Oconee Cellar celebrated its 20th anniversary with a big blowout at The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee.
More than 250 people showed up to the event hosted by Oconee Cellars owners Matt and Daniela Garofalo and everyone there appeared to be having a really great time!
The party-goers were treated to an assortment of wine, beer, and spirits being poured by several different area distributors as well as southern food being dished up by The Ritz-Carlton staff. In addition, local musician Ronnie Pittman and his band kept the crowd dancing most of the night with their high-energy country and rock sound.
In addition to celebrating 20 years of serving the Lake Oconee area, the festivities also included a raffle to benefit Second Harvest which is a local nonprofit whose mission is help eliminate hunger in Greene County.
Three days per week — 52 weeks per year — Second Harvest volunteers rescue excess food from local food outlets (e.g. Publix and The Ritz-Carlton) and deliver it to local charities in both Greene and Putnam Counties for redistribution to those in need. Second Harvest volunteers also provide a monthly food distribution in Greene County for those in need, and during the school year provide weekend ‘backpack meals’ to over 100 Greensboro Elementary School students from low-income families.
