GREENSBORO — There’s a new tool for attracting quality, economic development in Greensboro.

A large portion of the city is included in the federal Opportunity Zone program.  Opportunity Zones were established as part of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The zones offer tax relief for investments made in certain high-need areas across the country.  Investments in Opportunity Funds offer significant tax savings for individuals and can provide critical funding for key development projects in Greensboro.

The City of Greensboro is partnering with the Greene County Chamber of Commerce to host an Opportunity Zone Lunch and Learn workshop at noon on Jan. 22, at the Oconee Brewing Company.  The workshop will include a presentation from Opportunity Zone professionals from Sixty West Funds.  Sixty West specializes in Opportunity Fund management and project investment.

“The federal Opportunity Zone is a dynamic tool for incentivizing investment in Greensboro,” explained Greensboro community development director, Cail Hammons.  “We are excited to bring experts to the table who can help explain the best ways to put Greensboro’s Opportunity Zone designation to work for our community.”

Investors, developers, financial professionals, property owners and citizens who are interested in learning more about the Opportunity Zone program are encouraged to attend. Tickets for the event are $20 and include lunch. Tickets may be purchased from the Greene County Chamber of Commerce online at www.greeneccoc.orgor by calling 706-453-7674.
