GREENSBORO, Ga. — What a night in Downtown Greensboro! Many gathered, many sang a long and many danced the night away with the Groove Crew Band while celebrating the music of Motown last Saturday, July 13 at the Oconee Brewing Company.
Motown on Main was able to raise funds for the Greene County Family Connections organization and brought the community out for an entertaining evening with family and friends.
The crowd began arriving around 5:45 and the smell of Wing House Grill’s food truck filled the air. Many people gathered around tables, chairs and the dance floor in the event room, and made frequent trips to the tasting room in the Oconee Brewing Company. By the end of the night the Motown on Main event had over 240 people in attendance.
The Groove Crew Band greeted the crowd and began the night with a cover of ABC by the Jackson 5. Band leader, Jarvis Wingfield and his Groove Crew kept the music going throughout the night and performed a variety of hits from the Motown songbook along with other crowd favorites. Almost every song that was performed had majority of the crowd on the dance floor.
The Groove Crew Band is a six-piece powerhouse; Jarvis Wingfield, Mica Smith, Valente Keen, Zsatari Purcell, Oscar Varner Jr. and Angel Ocasio.
Major highlights from the evening included: Superstition, Purple Rain, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, etc.
People came from all around including, Greensboro, Marietta, Alpharetta and even all the way from Detroit, Michigan, to celebrate a memorable time in downtown Greensboro.
Dancing was encouraged throughout the night. A few stayed at their seats, but most of the crowd was up and moving around all throughout the main room in the brewery.
Proceeds of ticket sales from Motown on Main went towards the Greene County Family Connections nonprofit organization. Family Connection brings together community partners to develop, implement, and evaluate plans that address the serious challenges facing Georgia’s children and families. The partners work to research the needs of children and families in our community, and to address those needs together.
The next event that will be in Downtown Greensboro is the Georgia Classic Cruisers’ Rock ‘n Roll Cruise In on Sept. 21. Mark your calendars for the biggest car show in Greensboro!
