Does planting a native tree seem like a huge undertaking? It doesn’t have to be! In fact, it’s much easier (and cheaper) than you might think. Whether you’ve recently lost a beloved tree in your yard or you live in a neighborhood with few trees, knowing what to plant can seem challenging.  

Choosing the right tree species can help provide some seasonal color for your yard or even a bit of privacy from your neighbors or the street. On Sept. 17, the Greene County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers will host a free seminar on native tree varieties to help provide important details as you make plans for your landscape. 

From noon to 1 p.m., Greene County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers and the Greene County Extension Agent David Daniel will be covering trees that are native to the piedmont area Georgia offers a wide range of environmental differences. The class will take a look at the varieties that are native to the piedmont region along with some of the microclimate factors that should be accounted for before we plant within our respective landscapes. Understanding these factors will go a long way towards selecting the appropriate tree species and the establishment of a successful native planting. Master Gardener Extension Volunteers will be present to help answer your questions and get you pointed in the right direction as you look to establish the perfect native ornamental for your landscape.  

This class will be held at the Greene County Extension Office at 1180 C. Weldon Smith Dr., Suite 110 in Greensboro. The class is open to the public so bring friends or family who would like to learn. Please call ahead to register (706-453-2083).
