Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast
Published 2:37 pm Tuesday, September 24, 2019
Lake Conditions – Lake is mostly clear.
Water Temperature – Upper 80s
Largemouth Bass – FAIR – Very little change due to the continuing heat. Best fishing continues to be early and late in the day or anytime Georgia Power is pushing water downstream to Lake Sinclair or when water is being pulled back to Lake Oconee. Water current is very important now. Trick worm and topwater baits (buzz baits) are working early and late around docks, blowdowns and seawalls. As the sun gets up high fish the deeper docks with a shakey head or Carolina rigged Zoom Trick worm or move offshore in 14-24 feet of water and fish Carolina rigs (large Zoom Trick worms), football jigs and crankbaits (Strike King (Series 5Xd/6XD in Powder Blue, Gizzard Shad or Citrus Shad).
Crappie – GOOD – Crappie fishing continues to be good. The crappie are in the underwater timber and brushpiles. Find the crappie in the trees and brushpiles and then drop minnows or jigs down. This action will continue right into fall until a significant drop in water temps when the crappie will then move to shallow water.
Striped Bass/White Bass/Hybrid Bass – POOR – Do not expect much action until fall arrives with cooler temperatures.
Catfish – GOOD –The catfish are in the main lake, creeks and larger coves. Shad and bream heads are best for larger fish.
