GREENSBORO — Another successful event for the Classic Cruisers in Downtown Greensboro. About a hundred antique cars filled North Main Street on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Classic Cars began rolling into Greensboro before noon to start prepping for the annual Rock ‘N Roll Cruise-In event that is hosted by Greensboro’s Georgia Classic Cruisers Car Club and the Greensboro Main Street Program. The Cruise-In was sponsored by the Jimmy Britt Chevrolet, Buick, GMC dealership of Greensboro, Georgia.

The skies were blue, the sun was out, and temperatures hit the upper 80s. Everywhere you could turn on North Main Street, there were cars to look at. The crowd included all ages! As the clock struck 4 p.m., The Good Vibrations band kicked off the event with “Shake it Up Baby” and continued to play other famous hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s and today.

The crowd was up moving, dancing, and taking in the classic cars that lined the sides and up the middle of North Main Street. Many vehicles had their hoods up to show off the muscle that was underneath and the owners stood close by to answer any questions, talk shop and show off their beauties to those who passed by. 

“I’ve grown up learning about cars from my dad,” said Copelan Brack, owner of The Pink Stitch Boutique in downtown Greensboro. “I always love when the cars come through town, and seeing the community gather for events like the Cruise-In always gets us excited at The Pink Stitch.”

Downtown Greensboro’s shops remained open late and the restaurants were filled the entire night. The smell of BBQ filled the air from Christ City Faith’s concessions and a long line formed around them as people were eager to taste the burgers, hotdogs and ribs that were on the grill.  

Georgia Classic Cruiser’s President, Barney Ross cut the event short and began announcing awards at 7 p.m. so that people could get home and watch the big Georgia vs. Notre Dame game. Top 25 awards were given out and then Best in Show. John Smith greeted each winner with a smile and their award. 

“The vehicles that come to Cruise-In are always top-notch,” said Cynthia Smith, owner of Genuine Georgia. “Seeing the cars come through town, hearing the music all the way to my store and seeing people thrilled to be in Greensboro is always makes me so excited.”

The Rock n’ Roll Cruise-In is a part of the 2019 Greensboro Event Series that features unique downtown events throughout the year.
