The Kroger Co. provided shelving and the initial $5,000 to start the Greene County Food Pantry in 2007. Kroger has continued support yearly and through 2019 their donation totaled more than $120,000.

The Greene County Food Pantry and Kroger partnership started off early in 2020, with a $1,972 check and donation of Kroger gift cards worth $9,655. The food pantry uses the Kroger gift cards to purchase product from Kroger to stock the pantry shelves.

With the COVID-19 pandemic hitting the area, the local pantry has seen a continual weekly increase in families qualifying for assistance. In April, 559 families were served and further increases are expected to continue in the months ahead.

Kroger sensed the need and reached out to provide additional support. In late April Kroger and a Georgia Dairy Farmer group donated a pallet of milk (212 gallons). May started with Kroger sending the Greene County Food Pantry 500 $20 Kroger gift cards, totaling $10,000. The Kroger/Pantry Partnership is truly appreciated by Pantry board members, volunteers and especially the 559 families receiving assistance during these unusual times.

The Greene County Food Pantry, in this time of crisis, has been blessed to receive many additional food and monetary donations from corporations, communities, churches, organizations and individuals.
