GREENSBORO, Ga. — The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties designed Project HealthCare Heroes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to support and encourage the health care community.

By delivering meals to hospital staffs of Putnam General Hospital and St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital, the Club conveys that, “we appreciate your sacrifices for being on the front line of this crisis, and we hope we can lighten your load, if only for a few minutes a day.”

This effort also assists local restaurants that are seeking revenue to survive in these unparalleled circumstances.

The Club raised more than $35,000 in three weeks and is honored to assist the hospitals and restaurants of our community.

Donna O’Neal, President of the Rotary Club, stated, “I am forever amazed, yet never surprised, at the kindness and generosity of our community.”

The Rotary Club also erected a “Heroes Work Here” sign at the front entrance of Putnam General Hospital and St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital to show support for the front line workers.

Should there be unexpended funds from the donations to the Project HealthCare Heroes, they will be used to purchase and distribute weekend meals for low-income children in Greene County each week of the school year. The “School Backpack Program” will be distributed through Second Harvest, one of the Rotary’s Signature Projects.
