The local chapter of P.E.O. has awarded scholarships to five very deserving young women.

P.E.O., an international philanthropic organization, works to raise money to fund scholarships, grants and loans in order to help women achieve their educational goals.

Chapter AP is comprised of women from Greene, Putnam and Baldwin counties who feel fortunate to have a number of schools from which to select these highly accomplished students.

This year, scholarships were awarded to three students entering college and two students who are returning for their second year. Awards were given based on outstanding academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and a need for assistance to attend the institution of their choice.

P.E.O. has awarded more than $366 million to 119,000 women to help with their educational pursuits. With more than 6,000 chapters across the country and in Canada, members strongly believe that the education of women makes a difference in communities and in the world.
