Putnam County 49, Monticello 0

The War Eagles moved to 2-0 after demolishing the Monticello Hurricanes (0-2) on the road. Putnam transfer quarterback Gerald Kilgore put up a huge stat line by throwing for 230 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 117 yards. This is the junior’s first year as a War Eagle after having made the move from Baldwin High School where he started much of the 2019 season. His performance helped Putnam get to 2-0 for the first time since 2017, and the team will try to get to 3-0 this week when the War Eagles travel to Social Circle (1-2). Friday will be Putnam’s final non-region contest of the 2020 season.

Gatewood 54, Trinity Christian 6

The two-time defending GISA AA champion Gators (2-0) got another blowout victory in their 2020 home opener by taking down AAA Trinity Christian of Dublin. Like Putnam, Gatewood starts the season 2-0 for the first time since 2017 after Friday’s dominant performance that was over early. On top of the easy victory, the Eatonton private school also raised over $1,000 for a local cancer organization with its annual “Gold Out” game for childhood cancer awareness. Donations were collected throughout the week at school and at the game Friday night to reach the set goal. The Gators’ next goal is to win their upcoming ballgame, which is this Friday at Terrell Academy in Dawson located in southwest Georgia. The Terrell Eagles are 2-0 so far this season, and were who Gatewood beat in 2018 to secure its first of back-to-back state championships.
