Schools surrounding Baldwin County fared pretty well on the football field Friday night. Here are the area results from Sept. 25 and where teams are headed next.

Putnam Co. 45, Social Circle 0

The War Eagles (3-0) of Eatonton beat up on Class A-Public Social Circle (1-3) on the road Friday night. Putnam is undefeated through three weeks for the first time since 2017, but has not gone 4-0 since all the way back in 1994. The high-scoring Eagles will try to do just that this week when they welcome new region opponent Westside of Augusta to Eatonton. This will be Putnam’s first game ever as a member of GHSA Region 4-AA, which is predominantly an Augusta-area region. Westside is 1-2 so far this season, beating Greene County in the opener before losing to Warren and Lincoln. 

Gatewood 14, Terrell 0

No one has scored more than six points on the two-time defending GISA AA state champion Gatewood Gators (3-0) through three games in 2020. The Gators are looking for a three-peat under head coach Jeff Ratliff who has taken the team to three of the last four title games. Gatewood now gets a week off to recuperate before squaring off against lake area rival John Milledge Academy on Oct. 9. 

Hancock Central 42, Greene Co. 3

The Bulldogs of Sparta delayed the start of their 2020 season due to COVID, so Friday’s game at Greene County (0-3) was their opener. The Tigers from Greensboro have struggled mightily so far this season as Friday was the least amount of points they have surrendered through three games. While it counts as a win in Hancock’s record, the Bulldogs could sort of treat the Greene game as a scrimmage. The remainder of their games this season are against Region 7-A Public opponents, beginning this week when 1-2 GMC Prep makes the short ride over to Sparta. 

Washington Co. 27, Swainsboro 22

The Golden Hawks of Sandersville (1-2) got into the win column and got a little revenge at Swainsboro (2-2) Friday. The two schools had just faced one another two weeks prior in this topsy-turvy pandemic football season. That first matchup went the way of the Swainsboro Tigers, 20-14. In the more recent meeting, WACO was down one with less than a minute to play, but pulled ahead thanks to a Malyk Walker kick return for a touchdown to even the season series at 1-1. The two teams could break the tie later this year if they match up in the GHSA Class AA state playoffs. In the meantime, the Hawks will try to keep the winning going this week when they travel to 6A Evans who sits at 3-1.
