Generosity abounds in Georgia’s Lake Country and is evident with recent donations of Kibby book packages to the Circle of Love in Greensboro. Lake Oconee resident and national award-winning author Andrea Cassell recently created a Kibby package consisting of her first book, “Kibby The Space Dog,” a Kibby plush pup with the cone of shame, and a Kibby book bag to hand out to the many children who find themselves staying at the Circle of Love Center. Twenty-six generous donors made a monetary donation to help make it possible to distribute these gifts of love to the children.

The Circle of Love Center, which serves Greene, Morgan, Putnam, Hancock and Baldwin counties, is an emergency shelter and resource center for domestic violence victims and their children. The agency addresses the unique needs of rural victims of domestic, family, and dating violence. Seventy-five percent of the population at Circle of Love is children. 

In “Kibby the Space Dog,” Kibby is an adorable, miniature Labradoodle that experiences something we all deal with at one point in our lives — rejection. When Kibby has to wear the “cone of shame” due to stitches, children are reluctant to get near him and other dogs ignore him. Along his journey to recovery, Kibby discovers things that will inspire children to accept who they are and accept others who are different. He learns the importance of not judging others for the way they look. 

On Sept. 24, Andrea Cassell was honored to read Kibby’s story to two children and their Mother at Circle of Love. The children were so excited when they received the Kibby package and Center Director Kimberly Bennett stated that the Circle of Love staff are elated to be able to present these gifts to children, who often come to the Center with nothing.
