Rotary Club offering free flag disposal

The U.S. Flag Code states, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties offers a free service to collect and properly dispose of any worn or damaged flags. The Rotary Club will collect old flags at the locations listed below. Local Boy Scouts Troops and Putnam County Fire Rescue Department will conduct the proper flag disposal ceremonies. This year marks the 14th year of the program. To date, the Club has collected over 2,000 flags.
To dispose of an old flag, simply drop it off at any of the following locations:
Greene – Greene County Board of Education, 101 E. 3rd St., Greensboro
Greene – Herald Journal, 107 North Main, Greensboro
Greene – Coldwell Banker Lake Oconee Realty, 1010 Village Park Lane, Greensboro
Putnam – Eatonton Messenger, 100 N. Jefferson, Eatonton
Putnam – The Peoples Bank, 2095 S. Jefferson St., Eatonton
The Peoples Bank, 995 Lake Oconee Parkway, Eatonton
