- Activity is back in full swing at The Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton.
Under new leadership, the Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton continues on its mission to strive to make the arts accessible to everyone. Along with live entertainment, youth programs are extremely important to the Marketing Director Taylor Hembree.
“We have in person camps coming up for the kids and we are working on some new things,” Hembree said. “…Youth programing and that education is very important to us here.”
Some of the camps that have taken place this summer included Camp Broadway in June where the Center had 16 children learn acting, singing and and dancing. Because of COVID-19, this camp was held virtually last year.
“We are extending our youth programming and education and we are very happy to see that be successful,” Hembree said.
Summer Broadway Intensive for high school and college students started July 5 and concludes July 16. The two-week camp is focused on the performance that will be performed for two weekends after the camp. Students will learn advanced vocal, choreography, acting and other intensive production skills.
Coming up July 19-23, the Center will host its annual art camp for children ages 6 to 12. During this weeklong camp, students will create projects and learn art through different mediums such as drawing, painting, pottery, weaving and more.
Along with youth camps this summer, live entertainment is back at the Center. Three shows have already taken place including Matt Rogers, Jeff Carson and Karen Peck & New River.
[We have been] getting people back in our building and allowing people to engage with each other,” Hembree said. “We are very happy to provide opportunities for that.”
Coming up in the coming months there will be a continuation of the Meet Me at the Plaza series with A1A official Jimmy Buffett tribute band on Sept. 25.
“That is an outdoor concert series and people can bring their chairs and kind of settle in for a night of really fun music,” Hembree said. “…They were here maybe last year or the year before and it was a huge success, so I know the community is looking forward to that.”
Later in December, the Celtic Angels will return to the Center.
