On Monday, Aug. 30, Jay Moon, a native of Morgan County (Buckhead), began his new role as the county executive director at the Putnam County Farm Service Agency Office, which serves agricultural producers Morgan, Putnam, Jasper, Greene, Jones and Baldwin counties. 

Prior to beginning this role with the Georgia Farm Service Agency, Moon worked at the Morgan County Extension & 4-H Office. During that time, Moon served as an AmeriCorps Service Member, Morgan County Ag Center director, as well as the Agriculture and Natural Resources program assistant. He worked with producers, community members, and youth in various areas including agriculture. 

In the fall of 2019, he graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural education. While at UGA, he traveled abroad multiple times, including studying about sustainable beef, lamb, and dairy production in Uruguay. He also served in various roles for clubs and organizations during his time at UGA. In his last year of college, he served on the National Collegiate level, as the Officer at Large for the American Dairy Science Association’s Student Affiliate Division. 

Moon has a strong background in agriculture. He was raised on a 120-cow dairy operation in Morgan County (Buckhead). He has spent many days prior helping to keep the family farm in operation. He still lives on the farm and strives to stay up to date on industry information. He strives to continue to participate in and attend local agriculture producer association meetings. 

“I am excited to be able to serve in this position. I want to be an asset to the local agricultural community. The programs that FSA offers is critical to the success of local agriculture. We have a wonderful staff that is ready to help,” Moon said.
