- The Mission Team prepares in Fred’s store for opening day.
The 10th annual Greensboro First United Methodist Church Garage Sale to benefits Missions was a record breaking success! There were more donations than ever before of terrific items including a huge selection of furniture, home décor, kitchenware, artwork, tools, rugs and Christmas decorations. All priced to sell on the racks of the former Fred’s Store in downtown Greensboro. This cherished event is a true WIN-WIN for the Church Mission Committee, the community and all of the projects that will be served by our Missions team. The total for the four day sale broke last years record with a grand total of funds raised this year at $51,272..
Church volunteers began preparing for this highly anticipated event as early as March 2021. All items, large and small, were collected, stored and moved into Fred’s in the first weeks of October. Scores of volunteers in red aprons assisted customers with the selection of items. Cashiers tabulated purchases and waiting volunteers transported the furniture to trucks and trailers, plus large bags of smaller items to fill waiting cars.
All the funds raised from the sale will go to the FUMC Mission Committee for its work in Greene County and the surrounding region. The committee also supports Methodist international projects as well. Our church and community has offered wide-ranging help to those in most need.
