Rotary Club Awards Adult Education Scholarships

(Greensboro, GA, April 6, 2022) – The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties recently awarded two more adult education scholarships, one to Athens Technical College and one to Central Georgia Technical College (GCTC). The Rotary Club established the scholarships to support those seeking to obtain high school equivalency credentials and beyond. The scholarships to both schools will be awarded to eligible student who are residents of Greene and Putnam Counties, with other requirements determined by each institution.
Scott Gessay, President of the Rotary Club, stated, “One of Rotary’s focus areas here in the community is education. We provide scholarships to all five of the local high schools in Greene and Putnam Counties and one thing that we saw last year was a need to support the career academies both in Greene and Putnam so we’re providing this scholarship for that cause.”
The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam counties presented a check to the Putnam County Campus of CGTC for Adult Education, GED Testing, in the amount of $350 on December 16, 2021. “This will definitely remove financial barriers that students have for GED testing,” said Carrie Dietrich, the director for the Putnam County Center of Central Georgia Technical College.
The Adult Education Division’s mission is to enable adult learners in Central Georgia to acquire the basic skills necessary to compete successfully in today’s global workplace, to strengthen individual character and family foundations, and to exercise full citizenship.
CGTC’s Putnam County Center, located in Eatonton, offers adult education courses, credit courses, and continuing education courses. This facility also boasts Welding and Commercial Truck Driving courses. The Putnam County Center maintains a close working relationship with Putnam County High School to offer dual enrollment courses for local high school students. Through both of these programs, students can earn college credit while in high school at little to no cost to the student’s family.
On February 17, 2022, Rotary Past President Lu Frier Byrd and Rotary President Elect Donna Osborne, presented a check for $350.00 to Athens Tech Foundation. Josh Paine, Executive Director, PR & Institutional Advancement stated, “Thank you to the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties for supporting our Adult Education division with $350 for GED vouchers!”
“We are delighted for our Club to present these scholarships for the needs of Greene and Putnam County adult education students,” stated Byrd. “Supporting students and literacy is an initiative our Club has looked forward to supporting in each year.”
