Have you heard the buzz?
“The show was amazing,” Kasey Maddox commented on Facebook. “I enjoyed it so much.”
“Outstanding performance tonight,” Hugh Foskey also commented.
People are talking about the performance of “Godspell” being held at The Plaza and we could not be more excited.
“If you weren’t at The Plaza Arts Center tonight to watch this great group of young adults preform Godspell, you missed an awesome show,” Kimberly Lee posted. “…wonderful show, wonderful cast — our community has some superb talent!”
Godspell is a musical telling some parables of Jesus and his followers. From comedy to pure, raw emotion, Godspell is a moving performance.
The young actors and actresses on the stage are from Putnam and surrounding counties, creating a unique experience for not only performing, but for the audience as well. Even though they may not have acted together before, their voices are in perfect harmony, the chemistry of friendships is there and the professionalism is apparent.
For just two weeks, the performers worked on learning lines, choreography, vocals and costumes, props and the set. Two weeks for an entire performance to come together is a feat and this group has done it well.
This two week Broadway intensive is a collaborative effort between The Arts Barn and The Plaza. Joining in the efforts this year, OPAS donated scholarships so that no one who wanted to perform would have to worry about the financial burden of putting on a show.
It takes a village to put something like this together and talking that helm was Henry Scott. Scott, a Broadway veteran, directed Godspell, challenging the cast to take a deep dive into their character. This challenge ultimately paid off when opening night hit and the cast got a standing ovation.
There are two more chances to see “Godspell” — June 30 and July 1. Get your tickets online at plazacenter.org.
“This performance is a ‘must see,’” Susan Larson said.
