Pete Nance Boys and Girls Club presents 2nd annual Evening with Art

Published 10:32 am Thursday, July 28, 2022

The Pete Nance Boys and Girls Club in Greensboro recognizes that each child is born with unique and creative talents. The Club inspires these talents by offering programs through various forms of art and even has a room designated for this purpose at the new club facility.

In September, the club will once again have a partnership with some of the South’s leading contemporary artists to help fund all programs that provide arts, academics and character building for the club members. This will be a party with the chance to purchase art for your home and/or office that is not available locally.

The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Bend the Trend, 2101 Reynolds Parkway. Music will be provided by Fuzzy and the Works.

Tickets are $100 per person and are available for purchase online (bgcncg.com/petenance).

The beneficiaries of this event are the children who attend the club each day. With COVID restrictions these past couple of years, the club was restricted to the number of children we could have in our new facility. However, in January the club was allowed to have 130 members and as of June it has increased to 155. The club facility that the generous Greensboro community helped build in 2021 has children ranging in age from kindergarten through high school.

The Pete Nance Boys and Girls Club exists to engage, inspire and empower the children in Greene County. Club leadership, staff and volunteers greet members each day with a gracious welcome and a friendly smile. They work to to accommodate the needs of each student with a variety of activities ranging from high tech to playing in a fabulous gymnasium.

Each child is required to work on academics during Power Hour before they can enjoy other activities. The club offers a Learning Center, Early Act program provided by the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties, Novelis Lab science theme and application activities, IXL web-based learning for language arts and math skills, Smart Girls programs for the 8- to 17-year-old girls to teach fitness, prevention /education and self esteem enhancement, Passport to Manhood for the 11- to 14-year-old young men to focus on character and manhood, as well as Money Matters for the 13- to 18-year-olds to learn aspects of financial responsibility. Art programs are also offered to foster creativity and give our members outlets for self expression. The club recently had 56 students honored at the Greene County High School Honors Night.
