In 1992, Mark Blanton was scouting locations to open a retail jewelry store. He was considering Greensboro after passing through the town many times on his jewelry sales route, noting a solid business district and proximity to Lake Oconee. Little did he know that picking downtown Greensboro to locate his business would impact both him and the town in many and diverse ways.
Today, after 30 years in business, owner Blanton says that while times may have changed, the core values that he established then still apply today: earn the customer’s trust, provide great customer service along with a quality product, treat everyone fairly (employees included), and stay committed to the success of the entire Greensboro business community.
Blanton’s commitment to Greensboro extends to his interest in buying and renovating many of the buildings in Main Street/Broad Street corridor. He takes pride in providing beautifully remodeled spaces that are now occupied by Genuine Georgia and Maggie Lane Boutique, among others.
One of his recent projects was the florist next door, which was owned by the late Joel McRay. Since the two businesses shared a common wall, Blanton and McRay often joked that whoever passed first had to purchase the other’s building. Sadly, that became a reality a couple of years ago when McRay, the town historian, passed away. True to his word, Blanton bought and renovated the building which is now home to Dee’s Florals and Botanicals.
Blanton and his staff, Mitzi and Sara, invite customers to stop in during the month of August to celebrate Greensboro Jewelers’ 30th anniversary with discounts and savings on many of your favorite brands, like Uno de 50 and La Fonn. They can also help you with custom jewelry design and repair.
Blanton travels often to Antwerp, Belgium to buy diamonds direct, and he may be traveling there again in October. Now is a great time to stop in to discuss your diamond request while saving on the available inventory of diamonds. Mark, Mitzi, and Sara will be happy to assist you, whether you want to customize a piece of jewelry or need a special occasion gift.
