On Wednesday, Sept. 14, Publix had four of their employees donate their time to support the Greene County Food Pantry.

Publix across their network had employees giving their time for a program called Publix Serves. The team brought the bakery items, bagged fruit  and vegetables and delivered 40 pounds of groceries to each client family that showed up.

Tonya McWhorter commented, “September has seen record numbers of families needing food so not only are we challenged on the food demand but also the volunteers to make the operation possible. Thanks to Jason and his team for helping the pantry.”

The Greene County Food Pantry has seen demand up over 20% in the past three months while the food expenditures have more than doubled.

“We appreciate what Publix has provided with frozen meats and bakery items and most recently, fresh produce” said President Steve Peluso.

The Greene County Food Pantry is a 501©3 non-profit charity located in the heart of Greensboro Public Housing.  To donate much needed food or to help with the Greene County Food Pantry, you can visit www.greenecountyfoodpantry.org or call 706-453-1380 or email at gcfoodpantry519@gmail.com
