Thillen Education Foundation raises $120K on Giving Tuesday

The funds raised on Giving Tuesday will go toward financial assistance to the first graduated class of students in the career coaching program at Greene County High School.

GREENSBORO, Ga. — The objective for Thillen Education Foundation (TEF) on Giving Tuesday was to replenish the $120,000 in financial assistance awarded to the first graduated class of students in the career coaching program at Greene County High School (GCHS).  

By replenishing the funds, TEF will be positioned to award as much or more to the 80-90 students who will graduate in the class of 2023.

The Thillen Education Foundation in partnership with Greene College & Career Academy provides an innovative coaching and financial assistance initiative that services all 450 students at Greene County High School. All students are partnered with a career coach that assists the student in their area of career interest and jointly develop a formal career plan. Last May, 84 students who earned over $50,000 in “Dave Dollars” during their four years of high school and were awarded over $70,000 in “Next Step Funds” during their senior year. 

Before Giving Tuesday, four generous sponsors pledged $60,000 so that all donations on Giving Tuesday would be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $60,000.  With their massive help, the goal was achieved. It was a wild ride from early morning to evening hours but when the smoke cleared, there were 61 donors and $60,300 donated or pledged. 

On behalf of the 450 students attending Greene College & Career Academy located inside GCHS , the 130 career coaches who commit to work with their three or four students for four years, and many other active supporters — a great BIG thank you to the community for supporting our amazing and deserving students.
