Pure Chiropractic first opened its doors as Smith Family Chiropractic in 2000 and has served the communities of Eatonton, Lake Oconee and Milledgeville in the years since. The Milledgeville location is celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2022, while Pure Chiropractic Lake Oconee has served Eatonton and Lake Oconee for 26 years.

Dr. Ted Smith is a wellness chiropractor and owner/founder of Pure Chiropractic.

“When my wife Karen and I started out 26 years ago, it was our vision to be the community headquarters for lifetime family wellness,” he said. “That community started out in downtown Eatonton, then expanded to Lake Oconee in 2006, and for the past 10 years has included Milledgeville/Baldwin County and the surrounding areas.”

Pure Chiropractic Milledgeville Operations Manager Hannah Goss recently explained in depth the services offered.

“We are ‘pure-ly’ Chiropractic, which means we focus solely on the spine — we start with what we call a checkup, a thorough health history, along with any necessary x-rays. Once the doctor has seen the patient’s spine, he or she will come up with a series of gentle and specific adjustments that will work to restore the spine’s balance, and therefore also restore the brain-body connection. We like to say, ‘restore your power, restore your life!’ We also take follow up x-rays at specific intervals to see how the spine is correcting.”

Goss said that Pure Chiropractic customizes care plans for individuals and families, whether or not they have insurance. According to Goss, Pure Chiropractic tries to accommodate as many patients as possible.

Two of the newest members of the team at Pure Chiropractic, Dr. Ori Thomas and Dr. Michael Evans, have ties to the Milledgeville area. Thomas moved to the United States from Israel when she was 2 years old. As a child, she saw a pediatric chiropractor when her mother began receiving treatment for her migraines.

“I had no problems, and my mom wanted to keep it that way,” Thomas said. “Chiropractic care and the philosophy made so much sense to me that I decided to pursue it as a career.”

She received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Georgia College & State University, before attaining her doctor of chiropractic degree from Life University in Marietta.

Dr. Evans is originally from Milledgeville and is a graduate of John Milledge Academy. He took a rather unique path to the field.

“I got started in chiropractic by chance. I got some flyers in the mail and thought it could be a good back up,” he said.

Originally, Evans received his bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation science from Armstrong State University in Savannah.

“[I] started looking into it more, visited the school (Life University), shadowed a local chiropractor and it just clicked,” said Evans of his path into the field.

What makes Pure Chiropractic unique, according to Evans, is that the practice is patient-centered.

“We don’t have cookie cutter plans,” he said. “We treat each patient as an individual and try to educate and love each one of them.”

Both doctors agree that their patients are what they enjoy most about their jobs.

“Our patient relationships are truly the most impactful part of the job. Our team has become a family,” said Thomas.

Evans added: “I enjoy the patient interaction more than anything. Taking care of people. It’s why I got into this profession.”
