Once again, supporters and patrons of the Oconee Performing Arts Society (OPAS) have shown their commitment to the arts and arts education by attending the organization’s fundraiser, Soiree én Blanc & Noir last November, benefiting OPAS arts and education initiatives. One of those initiatives is scholarship opportunities for students wishing to pursue a major in the Performing Arts. OPAS is accepting applications from students now.

The exciting and unique Soiree én Blanc & Noir fundraiser was an elegant black and white-themed event based on the well-known worldwide French Diner én Blanc phenomenon. OPAS kept the location of Soiree én Blanc & Noir a secret until the day of the event. Last year’s event was at downtown Eatonton’s beautifully renovated Barrell 118.

With excellent attendance and willing hearts, OPAS raised funds for the organization’s Arts Education initiatives and scholarships. Other initiatives include the OPAS Lesson Bank, Youth Chorus, the OPAS after-school theater and music camp with Atlas Academy, the Greene County Arts Showcase sponsorship, and numerous scholarships for the Broadway Intensive held each summer at The Plaza Arts Center.

“Our community constantly humbles me. When we ask for support for our programs, there is no hesitation. I am proud and excited about the future of the arts and that we can support young people pursuing their artistic passions and goals. We have so much to look forward to, thanks to our community,” says Artistic/Executive Director Doug LaBrecque.

Previously, the scholarships were available only to students in their first year. This year, the OPAS Arts Scholarships will consider current college performing arts students as they extend their college studies.

OPAS is accepting applications with a deadline of April 15. Students can access the application on the OPAS website https://www.opas.org/performing-arts-scholarship.

The Oconee Performing Arts Society is the premier performing arts organization that presents a variety of high-quality performing arts experiences while helping to foster a sense of shared community through the arts. In addition to world-class music, theater, and dance performances OPAS presents to the community, the organization also brings life-enriching performances to over 4,000 local school children annually. With the support of individual and corporate donors, the Oconee Performing Arts Society’s mission is to entertain, enrich, and educate the local community through the arts.
