- The annual Knights of Columbus charity brunch awarded funds to 21 worthy organizations supporting Greene, Putnam and Hancock counties.
On Saturday, April 15, the Knights of Columbus organization from the Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church in Greensboro hosted their annual charity brunch. Throughout the year, the Knights raise funds to help support 21 very worthy organizations that extend help to those in need across Greene, Putnam and Hancock counties.
Leaders from each of these charities and ministries were invited to the brunch to be recognized, share a brief description of the services their organization provides, and were then awarded a support contribution on behalf of the Knights Council 13808.
This is a very special annual event because it gives the Knights of Columbus attendees an opportunity to better understand and appreciate where their funds and efforts are being put into action to impact the lives of those in need. The organizations that were supported this year included:
Athens Technical College Foundation
Atlas Ministries
Circle of Love
First Call Pregnancy
FERST Foundation-Hancock County
FERST Foundation-Greene County
FERST Foundation-Putnam County
Greene County Food Pantry
Habitat for Humanity-Putnam County
Hancock County Food Bank (Helping Hands)
Martha’s Closet
Putnam County Resources (Lifesource)
Community in Schools-Hancock County
Habitat for Humanity-Greene County
Pete Nance Boys & Girls Club
Episcopal Redeemer Car Program
Greene County Special Olympics
Kingdom Kare-Hancock County
Putnam Jasper Support Group
Putnam County Special Olympics
This year the local Knights of Columbus council raised and donated approximately $70,000 and provided 23,400 hours of community service. Their fundrasing events include Tootsie Roll campaign to support people with intellectual disabilities, annual raffles, trivia nights and Lenten fish frys. None of this could happen without the extraordinary generosity of everyone in our community participating in the above events thereby donating to these worthy causes.
The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization with more than 1.9 million members focused on providing financial support and assistance to the sick, disabled and families in need. Locally, the Pope John Paul II Council, located at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, has 180 members and serves Greene, Putnam and Hancock counties.
