Summer is coming!

As summer comes along, parents and grandparents are trying to figure out how to entertain their young ones for a few months without school. Summer camps provide lifelong memories for kids and there are so many reasons why summer camps are a great idea for kids of all ages.

These reasons include: self-esteem building, trying new things and thus learning new skills, social development and so much more.

All of these reasons are crucial building blocks for kids. Whether it’s knowing they can try something new, and that it’s OK to fail at said new thing, or the confidence to be themselves around others — building life skills is something that is critical at a young age. Enrolling your child in summer camps is one way to ensure they have a chance to work on their self esteem, and they get to learn new skills while they’re at it!

At The Plaza Arts Center, there are two camps to keep the young ones busy throughout the summer.

The first is Camp Broadway. Camp Broadway is in collaboration with The Arts Barn and is for rising third- through eighth-graders. Campers will explore acting, song, and dance combined with theatre games that hone acting skills and how to engage as an ensemble member. The camp will culminate with a performance for family and friends at the end of the week. This camp takes place June 12-16 from 12:30 to 4 p.m. The cost is $175. Registration is online at plazacenter.org.

The next camp is The Plaza’s Art Camp. This camp is a hit every year. Art Camp is for rising 1st – 5th graders. Campers will create new projects daily ranging from basket weaving to painting. There will be lots of outdoor time spent making art in nature. Art Camp is July 17-21 and is $125. Registration is online at plazacenter.org.

And back for the third year, The Plaza and The Arts Barn’s Broadway Intensive is for the older Lake Country youth. The Broadway Intensive culminates in a two-weekend long production. This year the collaboration will be working on “Seussical.” Dr. Seuss’ best-loved characters collide and cavort in an unforgettable musical caper in “Seussical.” “Seussical” is fun for the whole family! Join us and let our Broadway Summer Intensive students wow you. This musical is packed with stories of friendship, loyalty, family and community. Performances are July 6-8 and July 13-16.Tickets for “Seussical” are on sale now at plazacenter.org.

Scholarships are available for both summer camps. Please call The Plaza’s office at 706-923-1655 for information on scholarships.
