LOYA announces 10 scholarship winners for 2023

Lake Oconee Youth Alliance is proud to announce the 10 recipients of the LOYA scholarships for 2023.
The list of recipients includes seven local 2023 high school graduates and three local 2022 high school graduates who are rising college sophomores.
LOYA is dedicated to the empowerment of youth through mentoring programs and scholarship programs for post-secondary education. Since 2018 LOYA has provided four-year recurring Scholarships to 52 area students—HOPE and PELL eligible attending in-state colleges and universities. Another 60 students have been served through the LOYA College Assistance program with books, laptops, dorm linens, transportation to school, and other needed items identified and approved by the scholarship committee. The third part of the LOYA college program is the mentor program. All students are paired with an adult mentor that assists them navigate the pathway through their collegiate journey. In 2023, LOYA added alumni mentors working with the adult mentors to provide additional support for our first in family collegiate students.

· LOYA Scholars average time to Graduation is 3.5 years
· LOYA Scholars maintain a 3.5 GPA cumulative average
· LOYA Scholar Graduates have an average annual starting salary of $ 69,000
In 2022, LOYA resumed their original program of providing high achieving College Assistance students the opportunity to apply for the LOYA scholarship for the remaining years of their undergraduate experience. This is offered to those students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
LOYA can use volunteers to work with youth in our high school programs preparing students for life after high school as well as helping with our post- secondary programs.
