ON THE MARKET: What home means

I’m sure many of you have seen the Tunnel to Towers ad on TV. A very powerful ad asking for donations. Since 9/11, they have been helping America’s heroes by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children and by building specially-adapted smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. Theyare also committed to eradicating veteran homelessness and helping America to never forget Sept. 11, 2001.

I walked away from the TV and the word “home” kept playing on my mind. Listening to the interviews by our brave patriots everyone kept repeating the word “home.” Words from the mouths of the wounded, “Where do you go if you do not have a home, home, the American dream, security, comfort, sense of belonging, love, laughter, memories.

Do we ever think about the importance of a home when we are buying?

  • Having a secure and safe home environment makes it easier to achieve life goals.

  • Creating a home requires an emotional connection and a sense of belonging, not physical things.

  • What home means to a child?Home is a crucial site for the development of trust in the constancy of people and things, identity, a sense of belonging, the capacity for social agency, and emotional mental well -being. “Community Roots Collaborative”

How many times have we said, how good it feels to get away, and it feels even better to come back home. Home is a place where laughter never ends and friends are always welcomed.

Nothing can replace the good feeling of have a place to come home to.
