The Oconee Performing Arts Society (OPAS) is proud to announce the recipients of this year’s Performing Arts Scholarships. The exceptional young talents recognized are Elisa Garcia-Carreras, Bobby Boone, Lylli Flanders, Helen Garcia-Carreras and Savannah Cathey.
OPAS is thrilled to support these promising individuals in pursuing higher education and continuing education in the performing arts.
The Performing Arts Scholarships are an annual initiative by OPAS to encourage and foster the development of exceptional students from the community. Each recipient has demonstrated outstanding dedication, passion, and talent in their respective fields. With this scholarship, OPAS aims to provide additional resources to help these students reach their
artistic aspirations and contribute to the enrichment of the performing arts
community.
In addition to the college scholarships, OPAS has extended its reach to support young talents through its Summer Camp Scholarship program. This initiative allowed students from nine surrounding counties to participate in The Broadway Intensive, providing them with unique learning experiences and exposure to various aspects of performing in a musical. These efforts culminated in a spectacular production of “Seussical,” presented by The Plaza Arts Center and The Arts Barn. The performance was a testament to the immense talent and hard work of the summer camp scholars, who had the opportunity to showcase their skills on a local stage.
“We are immensely proud of our college scholarship recipients, Helen Garcia, Elyse Garcia, Bobby Boone, Lylli Flanders and Savannah Cathey, and we believe they have bright futures ahead of them,” said Margie Eddy-Forbes, board chair of OPAS. “Moreover, our summer camp scholarship program has allowed us to collaborate with other local arts organizations while nurturing and supporting young talents from various counties. We were overjoyed to see the success of ‘Seussical’ due to the students’ dedication and passion.”
The Oconee Performing Arts Society extends its heartfelt gratitude to all its supporters, sponsors, and patrons who have made these scholarship programs and their ever-expanding arts education initiatives possible. Their generosity has allowed OPAS to continue its mission to entertain, enrich and educate.
