EATONTON, Ga. — While it may be too soon to think about fall, autumn is great for football, friends and family and spending time outside after the hot months of summer. The cool breeze of fall brings in new energy and fresh outlooks.
The Plaza Arts Center is excited to give an escape this fall with an outdoor concert with A1A, the Official and Original Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band. This outdoor concert is a great reason to enjoy the fresh air while listening to fantastic music.
“We want to create a space outside where memories are created and the music, food trucks and tasty drinks help to make that a reality at our A1A show,” Taylor Surman, marketing director at The Plaza said.
A1A is the official and original Jimmy Buffett Tribute Show. Parrot heads and casual fans alike will enjoy this show filled with island vibes. While summer may be ending, A1A is sure to bring all of the good, carefree feelings of summer back, even for a short while.
According to the A1A website, A1A – The Official and Original Jimmy Buffett Tribute Show started in 1991 when lead vocalist and guitarist, Jeff Pike asked Atlanta Parrot Head Club and PHIP founder Scott Nickerson to join him in his already successful one-man tribute to Jimmy Buffett. In 1992, the band won a Jimmy Buffett Sound Alike Contest for Margaritaville Records and the A1A ball started rolling — a ball that is still rolling 30 years later. A1A has released five albums, played to countless high profile clients around the world and continue to draw record crowds to their public performances. Members from Jimmy Buffett’s band, Greg “Fingers” Taylor, Mac McAnally, Michael Utley, Robert Greenidge, Peter Mayer, Nadirah Shakoor and Tina Gullickson have all performed with the band over the years. In 2012, Jimmy Buffett was instrumental in landing A1A a gig in the major motion picture release, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.” The band recorded Jimmy’s classic, “Why Don’t We Get Drunk,” which was included in the movie and on the soundtrack released by Capitol Records. Then in 2016, the band made more waves when Jimmy Buffett and Mac McAnally approached A1A with a request that they be Jimmy’s band during a private performance for The World Surf League at The Masters Open in Augusta.
“We are so looking forward to hosting A1A again this year,” said Susan Usry, executive director at The Plaza. “A1A is always a big hit with our patrons and provides a fun evening for all.”
A1A is set to play on The Plaza lawn Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $50 for VIP and both are available online at plazacenter.org.
There will be food trucks, a full bar (set with plenty of margaritas to go around)! As always, the A1A concert is a laid-back, bring your own chair, dance-the-night away kind of night. We invite attendees to bring their own coolers filled with their favorite beverages and enjoy the evening. There are VIP table options available for each show with eight seats at each round table. Call The Plaza at 706-923-1655 for more details.
