GREENSBORO, Ga. — On Saturday Sept. 9, the Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties hosted their bi-annual Shoes 4 Kids event.
A total of 50 local Putnam and Greene County School students loaded school buses in the early morning hours and headed to Shoe Carnival in Augusta. While on the busses, the students were treated with chicken biscuits and drinks compliments of Chick-fil-A Lake Oconee.Once they arrived at the store, they were greeted by members of the Rotary Club and other volunteers.
As part of Rotary’s Shoes 4 Kids event, each student was able to select a new pair of shoes, book bag, socks, and book from Rotary’s Books 4 Kids program.
Rotarians, other volunteers, and staff of Shoe Carnival were on hand to help with these selections. In addition, shoes were purchased for eight special-needs children who were unable to attend. The shoes were delivered to these students after the event.
The Shoes 4 Kids program provides a unique opportunity for the children to experience shopping and selecting a new pair of shoes, backpack, socks, and a book. Shoe Carnival once again opened the store exclusively for the event and offered additional discounts and snacks. Their staff was attentive and reliable and are always happy to be a part of this program.
The Rotary Club wishes to thank the Rev. Avis Williams, Putnam County Charter School System representative, for helping to organize the students. Also, the Rotary Club offers a special thanks to Shoe Carnival Store Manager Jeanette Oldham and her excellent staff for opening the store early and providing shopping assistance and snacks to the children and Josh Waddy of Chick-fil-A Lake Oconee for providing chicken biscuits. The Rotary Club thanks them all for their help in making this event so successful.
