GREENSBORO, Ga. — What if you could enter a raffle that gives you a chance to win a prize every week for 52 weeks and you can win more than once? What if you could do that and support one of the best service organizations in the Lake Country? Well, you can! All of the prizes are worth at least $300 and are provided by local merchants.

The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties is excited to announce that we are kicking off the 10th year of our Super Raffle fundraiser!This is really great way to support an awesome organization and have fun all year watching for the winner every week.

The funds raised through the upcoming 2024 Super Raffle are especially important to Rotary and the various elements of the community that we support.The Super Raffle is our Rotary Club’s major fundraiser.All of the net proceeds from the ticket sales go back to serve our local community through these and other projects: 

Signature Projects:

Second Harvest – Rotary Club provides funding and volunteers for monthly food distributions for the community and weekly backpack meals for students. More than 2 million pounds of food have been distributed since the inception of the program 12 years ago. In addition, every school year over 200 K-fourth-graders go home every Friday with a small nutritious meal to ensure that they have food available over the weekend. The club has also partnered with several other local churches and organizations to support a weekly soup kitchen, Our Father’s Kitchen, at Greensboro First United Methodist Church.

Shoes 4 Kids – Rotary Club provides shoes, backpacks, and socks to underprivileged children in Greene and Putnam Counties two times a year. Annually, over 120 children receive new shoes and backpacks from the club.

Books 4 Kids – Rotary Club provides volunteers and resources aimed at putting books in the hands of underserved children. To date, more than 2,000 books have been distributed to children ages 10 and younger.

Pets Love Vets – Rotary Club funds a pet adoption program for Military Veterans.The Club pays all costs associated with the adoption. Since the inception of the program a few years ago, over 100 Military Veterans have been united with a new pet companion!

Student of the Year Scholarships – A $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually for further education to one student from each of the local five high schools in Greene and Putnam Counties.

Bookshelf and Books for Children – Rotary Club provides a bookshelf and books for children preschool to 10 years old.

Community Support Projects:

• Collect and properly dispose of any worn or damaged flags. Local Boy Scouts Troops and Lake Oconee Elks conduct the proper flag disposal ceremonies. This year marks the 17^th year of the program. To date, the Club has collected over 3,000 flags.

• Weekly Meals on Wheels food deliveries to the homes of those who do not otherwise have access to food.

Other Youth and Adult Programs:

• EarlyAct established at Pete Nance Boys and Girls Club. This is a school-wide service club for elementary students.

• Interact Club established at local high schools. This service club is for youth ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self

• During the summer of 2023, we sponsored five local high school students to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp (RYLA) which is a leadership camp in beautiful Tallulah Falls.

• Laws of Life Essay which is a state-wide character education program for high school students. Annual essay contest with awards given to winners.

• Four-Way Test Essay Contest. Annual essay contest with awards given to winner.

• Adult Scholarships for GED testing.
