My Dear Readers:The last two weeks have been the hardest days of my life. I lost my beautiful husband of 60 years. He went peacefully to heaven with all our family holding him and saying our goodbyes.

Through the years I can always remember my husband saying how much he loved his home, and I thank God that he could die in his own home.

Do we ever stop to think when we purchase a home that this is one of the most important decisions we will make. This is a house, but it will soon become your home.

Not to get too sentimental, but what really is a home? Your home is the one place that can bring you comfort. It is your refuge.

All the money in the world can be put in a house, but what really makes a home? Your home reflects your personality. It is full of personal belongings. The magnets on the fridge, children’s paintings hanging on the wall, shoes by the back door, the bikes, and basketballs and even junk in the garage.

Coming home from a rough day at work greeted by your children’s laughter, the dog barking and hearing the baby crying is what makes our life better, and even a place to take your last breath. This is all under the house you purchased and made into your home.

Here are 10 things that make a house a home.

1.     Sleeping in your own bed

2.     Family photos

3.     Your own spot on the sofa

4.     The memories made in the home

5.     A fridge full of food

6.     A bookshelf filled with your books

7.     The smell of freshly cooked food

8.     Freshly washed bed sheets

9.     The location of the house

10.   Natural light (Rebecca Knight Ideal Home)

Through the years the memory bank will fill, and our homes will change over time to reflect the different stages of our family growth. Oh, the memories that will be made through the years. The house may go through changes, but those changes will not change your home.

So, when you are looking at homes to purchase always remember to look for a home that fits your budget, satisfies the needs of your family, and you can see the possibilities that could make this house your home.

The old saying “Home is where the heart is” is so true.Make a house your HOME full of love, laughter, and loving memories that you will cherish for a lifetime.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: “You make a life out of what you have, not what you’re missing.” (Kate Morton-The Forgotten Garden)
