Lake Oconee Elks Lodge No. 2849 is proud to continue to be a sponsor for Wreaths Across America.  It is the mission of Wreaths Across America to Remember the fallen, honor those who serve and teach the next generation the value of freedom.  This year, National Wreaths Across America Day was held on Saturday, Dec. 16.  Wreaths were laid at more than 4,000 participating locations. More than 2 million veterans’ wreaths were placed across local, national and military cemeteries as well as veterans’ memorials and historic sites. On Dec. 16, Lake Oconee Elks held a Wreaths Across America ceremony at the Greensboro City Cemetery.   Lake Oconee Elks also had a ceremony at the veterans wall at the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge at 1116 Lake Oconee Parkway, Eatonton and at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 2617 Vinson Highway, Milledgeville, Georgia at noon. At the Greensboro City Cemetery volunteers placed approximately 200 wreaths on veterans graves scattered throughout the cemetery to include the 45 unknown Confederate soldiers’ graves. In Milledgeville at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery approximately 3,700 wreaths were placed, and at Lake Oconee Elks Lodge, wreaths will be placed around the Veterans Wall.
