A magical night on Broadway

On Friday, Nov. 17, Broadway Sings for OPAS delivered an unforgettable night of musical enchantment at the hands of a stellar ensemble featuring renowned conductor Jason Howland, and Broadway stars Erika Henningsen and Capathia Jenkins, all under the expert guidance of OPAS Artistic Director Doug LaBrecque. The performance, enriched by the accompaniment of a genuinely outstanding orchestra, was a merging of talent and passion that left the audience in awe.

Howland, an Emmy and Grammy winner, brought his artistry to life, infusing the concert with a palpable energy. Erika Henningsen, acclaimed for her starring role in the recent Broadway smash hit Mean Girls, showcased her impressive vocal range, captivating the audience with every note. Capathia Jenkins, a true Broadway gem, thrilled the crowd with her soulful and commanding performance. In addition to hosting the event, Mr. LaBrecque brought the audience to its feet with his crystal-clear vocals and commanding stage presence.

The 30-piece hand-selected orchestra added depth and grandeur to each musical selection, enhancing the emotional impact of the performances. Concertmaster Josh Holritz impressed the audience with his violin fireworks in the symphonic tribute to Fiddler on the Roof, expertly orchestrated by the legendary John Williams.

LaBrecque’s vision and curation created a cohesive and highly entertaining show.Now in its third year, Broadway Sings for OPAS brings seasoned performers to Greensboro to share their talents by presenting the music of Broadway and American film.LaBrecque wisely included selections from the Disney catalog and two songs from the James Bond franchise. Kudos to the sound and lighting crew, who created a truly magical setting for the world-class artists appearing on stage.
