GREENSBORO, Ga — The Greene Chamber of Commerce is happy to announce that the Greene County Food Pantry (GCFP) has joined its growing membership.

GCFP’s mission is to provide a nutritionally sound assortment of food to those in need every month. Currently GCFP serves approximately 550 families that help feed about 1300 Greene County residents living below the poverty level.

Seniors and qualifying families with children account for 60% and 20%, respectively, of the pantry’s clientele. Due to higher food prices and inflation, more and more residents depend on the pantry for assistance.

In 2023, The GCFP spent more than $156,000 to feed those in need.

Joining the Chamber of Commerce gives us the opportunity to connect with other nonprofits and businesses to gain awareness for the Food Pantry and grow our volunteer base. We operate the pantry with two compensated employees, Tonya and Daisiana, as well as numerous volunteers from within our community. We provide services to our families on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at 10 M.L. King Jr Dr; #519-521; Greensboro,” said Steve Peluso, GCFP president.

Chamber President Mika Mills expressed her appreciation for the essential community service the Food Pantry provides and hopes the Chamber can assist them in gaining more partners and sponsors to help them grow and serve many more.
