GREENSBORO, Ga. — The Chamber of Commerce is proud to host this year’s Youth Leadership Greene group consisting of 10th grade students from Lake Oconee Academy and Greene County High School.

Students must apply to be a part of this prestigious group, meet scholastic requirements and exhibit exemplary behavior. Students visited the Greene County Public Safety Building for a ‘Protecting Our Community’ field trip held on Friday, Feb 16, and were greeted by Joe Bashore, Emergency Management Agency director.

Sheriff Donnie Harrison explained the duties of the sheriff’s office and the students were treated to a K9 demonstration.

Students then listened to presentations by Fire Chief Rodney Wiggins and EMS Director Anna Sheridan about their department capabilities and available career positions. Exploring the equipment on the fire trucks and ambulances as well as a hands-on use of the Jaws of Life was a huge highlight.

Lastly, students were able to go into the 911 Center and speak with 911 Director Dan Sinke and 20-year dispatcher Cole Armour.

A HUGE thanks to all for hosting the group. They learned so much and enjoyed the visit. Thanks to this year’s generous sponsors for making these trips possible so that these students can learn about their community, its different industries and become tomorrow’s leaders: Lake Oconee Eye Care, St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital, Curtis Foundation, Joe’s Roofing, BankSouth, Jerico Plastic Industries, Wesley Chapel Wesleyan Church, Harbor at Harmony Crossing, Rotary Club of Greene & Putnam Counties, Bulldog Marine, UGA Greene Co.
