Recipients of the 2023/2024 Charity Awards from the Knight of Columbus Council 13808.

On Saturday April 6, the Knights of Columbus Council 13808 from the Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church in Greensboro hosted its annual Charity Brunch. Throughout the year, the Knights raise funds to help support 19 very worthy organizations that extend help to those in need across Greene, Putnam and Hancock counties.

Leaders from each of these charities and ministries were invited to the brunch to be recognized, share a brief description of the services their organization provides, and were then awarded a support contribution on behalf of the Council 13808.

This is a very special annual event because it gives the Knights of Columbus attendees an opportunity to better understand and appreciate where their funds and efforts are being put into action to impact the lives of those in need around us. The Chairman of the Knights Charity Committee said that “…this is one of the most awe-inspiring events for the Knights of Council 13808 and charities in the three county area.”

This year the local Knights of Columbus council raised and donated approximately $70,000 and provided 23,400 hours of community service. Their fundraising events include Tootsie Roll campaign to support people with intellectual disabilities, annual raffles, trivia nights and Lenten fish frys. None of this could happen without the extraordinary generosity of everyone in our community participating in the above events thereby donating to these worthy causes.

The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization with more than 1.9 million members focused on providing financial support and assistance to the sick, disabled and families in need.

Locally, the Pope John Paul II Council, located at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, has 191 members and serves Greene, Putnam, and Hancock counties.
