- Veterans getting ready for dinner to be served
The Lake Oconee Elks Lodge was honored Aug. 27 to have 30 veterans and eight of their caregivers come to the Elks Lodge for a fish fry. The veterans arrived at 5:30 p.m. and enjoyed fried fish with all the trimmings. The fish were caught by fellow Elks James Lakeman, Keenan Nottingham, Doug Nell and Nick Knapp (professional guides at the lake). Elk Barry Bishop fried up the fish and his wife Gail made the hushpuppies with the help of Dee Clark. Mike DePetrillo, the lodge’s veteran chairman, made the slaw and beans and Elk Mary Zachary made tasty cupcakes. The veterans ate until they couldn’t hold anymore and all left full.
