Published 2:10 pm Wednesday, October 9, 2024

On Friday, Oct. 18, there will be an Honor Ride for some of Georgia’s wounded veterans. The veterans will be escorted down Highway 44 (Lake Oconee Parkway) by local officials and the Georgia Patriot Riders (a diverse group that ride together to honor and show respect for those who risk their very lives for America’s freedom and security).

Please come out and celebrate and cheer for these American heroes. The Honor Ride will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Greensboro Home Depot (2490 Meadow Crest Road) and will continue along Highway 44 (Lake Oconee Parkway) to the intersection of Harmony Road and Highway 44 (Lake Oconee Parkway) in Eatonton.

Please join along the route, which includes cheer points at the Harbor Club and Del Webb entrances, St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital, Linger Longer Road/Highway 44, the intersection of Harmony Road/Highway 44 and ends at the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge 2849 at 871 Harmony Road in Eatonton. Folks may cheer at any point along the route, it doesn’t have to be a designated point.

Flags will be provided at the designated cheer points or bring your own flag and cheer anywhere along the route.

Come on out and show these heroes how much you respect their sacrifices. Those interested in joining the honor ride (motorcycle or vehicle) may email James Lakeman at james.lakeman58@gmail.com .

At the end of the honor ride the veterans will enjoy lunch at the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge No. 2849. The veterans will hear from Army Master Sgt. Mike Reynolds during lunch. He is the founder of Heroag.com (Hero Agriculture). On Saturday morning, the veterans will enjoy a day of fishing (boat captains will be the Elks) and target shooting, which will culminate with an evening dinner cruise on Lake Oconee aboard the Spirit of Oconee.

The event is sponsored by the Georgia SCI (Georgia Safari Club International, Georgia Chapter) and the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge No. 2849.
