Rotary Club honors January 2025 Students-of-the-Month

GREENSBORO, Ga. —  The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties is pleased to announce the following Students-of-the-Month for January 2025: Tyler Middleton (Gatewood), Lauren Glass  (LOA), Gavin McKinley (NGA) and Sophia Moncada (Putnam County High School).

Tyler Middleton is a senior at Gatewood High School. He is the son of Brian and Kelly Middleton. An active high school senior, he is a varsity athlete in multiple sports: football, track and wrestling. He was named team chaplain of the football team, team captain of the wrestling team, and the best wrestler, over 152 pounds. He participates in numerous clubs and programs at Gatewood, including, The Student Ambassador program and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is a co-founder and co-leader of the Gatewood Youth Commission Christian Club. After high school, he aspires to attend Georgia College and State University and major in Marketing. Tyler VanDusen, his football and wrestling coach, is his chosen Gatewood High School Teacher-of-the-Month.

Lauren Glass is a senior at Lake Oconee Academy. Her parents are Bart and Lori Glass. She is a member of Lake Oconee Miracle, the varsity soccer team, the Lake Country Rural Health Initiative, Beta Club, and the National Art Honor Society. She enjoys playing soccer and spending time with friends and family. Lauren loves volunteering with her church, leading a small group of kindergarten and first-graders as well as a small middle school group. Her faith is the foundation for her lifestyle.  She is not yet sure where she will be attending college, but she plans to major in neuroscience and minor in psychology with the hopes of becoming a pediatric neurosurgeon. Kris Stevens is her chosen Lake Oconee Academy Teacher-of-the-Month.

Senior, Gavin McKinley is the son of Jill Webb and the late Alan McKinley of Siloam. He has attended Nathanael Greene Academy for five years. He has participated in basketball and football. He is a member of the Beta Club and serves as this year’s vice-president. He is also the secretary of the senior class. He is currently enrolled at the Greene County Career Academy in welding. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career in welding after he completes his course work at Oconee Fall Line Technical College. Jane Morgan is his chosen Nathanael Greene Academy Teacher-of-the-Month.

Sophia Moncada is a senior at Putnam County High School. Her parents are Miguel and Eunice Moncada. An honor roll student, she is a member of the Beta Club, Book Club, Key Club, National Honor Society, STEM Club, Farmers & Merchants Bank Junior Board, Student Council, jazz band, and marching band. She enjoys playing flute, piccolo and trombone in the music ensembles she participates in, creating art, writing stories and spending time with friends. She is also part of the 2025 Service Leadership class, which works to give back to the community. After high school, she plans to earn a bachelor’s degree and then attend flight school to train as a commercial pilot. She selected Kara El-Kadi as her Teacher-of-the-Month.
