ON THE MARKET: Change

The definition of the word change: In the context of life orientation, “change” refers to the process of transformation or transition from one state or condition to another, encompassing both personal and societal shifts, and requiring adaptation and adjustment.

One thing we can’t change in life is we will all experience change. Change is inevitable. It can come to us when we least expect it. Change comes in many forms. It may present itself to us in joy & happiness or sorrow.

How do people process change? The Change Curve is a popular model for understanding the different stages people and organizations go through when a change occurs. There are four key stages people tend to go through as they experience change. These are: shock/denial, anger/fear, acceptance and commitment.

Especially in today’s world. We are all being hit hard with major changes. Technology is approaching every generation sometimes faster than one can handle. Pertaining to real estate, we just get comfortable with contracts and changes come because of new laws and new technology. Sometimes its for the better and sometimes it complicates matters.

But let’s look at changes in our personal life.  How elated we are when a change comes that will better our lives. Meeting that special person, finding out that you are becoming a parent, a new job, a raise in pay, buying a new home. These are changes we all need to  thrive and find a purpose in life. Change gives us an incentive to keep striving for our fulfillment. We all have an innate need to find love and happiness.

Change can also come in sorrow. We all at some time in our lives experience sorrow. I think No. 1, losing a loved one is probably the most traumatic and the greatest change that one will have to experience. Losing a job, waiting for that promotion, even young people being rejected or not accepted. I remember my father saying “Honey, this is all part of life.”

I guess that’s where our faith comes in, and we keep going on in life. Something better is in God’s plan and worth the sorrow we will face throughout our lives.

So, what is the correlation between change and real estate? I have seen many changes in the years I have assisted people when buying or selling real estate. The client buying that first home. Their lives are about to change. How exciting! The client who is trying to accept that it is time for a change. They reach the time in their life when they no longer need the home that gave them so many years of memories. Death, divorce, monetary. The sorrow of seeing someone having to make that change.

CHANGE IS ALL PART OF LIFE

I am so grateful that I have had the opportunity to be part of someone’s life. Holding their hand through the changes that they experience when buying or selling real estate.

Thought for the Day: “The only constant in life is change.”

“To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.
