We recently observed Memorial Day.
Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed usually on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season.
Many of us were boating, eating ice cream and shooting fireworks. But between the barbecues and the pool parties, there were families who were thinking of the loved ones who paid the ultimate price by giving up their lives so this beautiful nation can enjoy freedom.
The other day I thought about that holiday. Being a wife, mother and grandmother, I thought how God spared me the agony of losing a loved one to a senseless war.
Then I thought about all those who were engaged in the military service who mention the word home, whether they are waiting to be deployed, on the battlefield, injured or taking their last breath. The word home will be heard. They look forward to going home.
Home, do we ever stop to think what that word really means and how we all yearn whether young or to come home?
Yes, dear readers, when you look at a house from the outside it is only a house, but when you purchase that house and walk through the doors to make it your home, it will be the place where you will live, laugh and learn. It is the place that you are loved, cared for and respected.
REMEMBER: Home is where the heart is. Your sanctuary.
Thought for the Day: Cry. Forgive. Learn. Move On. Let your tears water the seeds for your future happiness. (Steve Marabol)
